How to Remove Urine Smells With Steam Carpet Cleaners

Cat urine smell reeks the most, and, unfortunately is the hardest odor to remove off your carpet. In any case, no matter what your pet is, whether it’s a dog, a cat or a pig (you get the idea), one thing is for sure, your pet urine stains and stinks. And you know you love your carpet just as much. It is an expensive investment that you regularly use at home. It’s just that when your pet is on your carpet, then disaster is bound to happen. The good news is that the odor and stain can be removed with the use of steam cleaners.

I myself am a cat lover and can’t do without my cats (quite a few of them actually), so obviously, “accidents” are bound to happen to my carpet. It is a wise investment on your part to buy a steam cleaner to remove cat urine smell and pet urine stains. It makes your carpet cleaning more effective and, actually, cheaper compared to having to send your carpet to the cleaner every time. The first thing you will need to do is to clear and clean out the area where that strong cat urine smell is on your rug so you can clean it effectively; or, you can remove the rug altogether and move it to your garage or driveway if you want to clean the whole thing out.

Try to wipe out as much pet urine as you can off of the specific area on your rug and vacuum it before you steam clean it. There are inexpensive but effective steam cleaner solutions available in the market nowadays that specifically deal with animal stains and odors; you can buy one of those, or mix up your own steam cleaner solution using basic home ingredients: a cap of white vinegar (distilled), baking soda, dishwashing detergent, and fabric conditioner – this is most effective against that strong cat urine smell.

Mix these with clean, warm water on your steam cleaner’s water container and fill it to the brim; make sure that the filter is clean before you attach it back to the steam cleaner. Before you start steam cleaning, you might want to completely replace your carpet padding with a new one, or just clean it with the same solution on your steam cleaner.

If you are planning on cleaning the whole rug, then do so using the steam cleaner, but be sure to run the areas where the specific pet stains are at least twice or thrice. Pull the trigger on your steam cleaner as you push it forward and pull it backward (sort of like rubbing it against your carpet as when you iron your clothes) and leave the solution on for at least an hour or more. When you are done, air dry your carpet for at least 24 hours before putting it back inside your house with the furniture. You will want to be more careful now when it comes to letting your pets play on your carpet if you don’t want to have to go through this same tedious process in removing your pet stains, and especially that strong and pungent cat urine smell.
